Halal Certification Services: What Do You Need to Prepare When Launching a Brand with a Manufacturing Partner?

Halal Certification

Halal Certification

For brand owners who want their products to carry the Halal Certification Mark, the product formula and manufacturing process must comply with Halal requirements. In addition, the raw materials, documentation, and manufacturing facility must be inspected before approval to use the Halal Certification Mark.

For OEM manufacturing, the Central Islamic Council of Thailand currently provides a specific application form for the use of the Halal Certification Mark in cases where products are manufactured by contract.

If you manufacture with an OEM factory, does the customer need to apply for Halal certification themselves?

When manufacturing with Maydi International, we support Halal standards and can assist with preparing the required production information and documentation throughout the process. Documents related to the manufacturing facility include:
  • Product formula and raw material list
  • Halal certification documents for raw materials
  • Information on raw material manufacturers and suppliers
  • Manufacturing process
  • Halal-compliant production control system
  • Manufacturing facility documents and relevant licenses
  • Documents required for the manufacturing facility inspection and certification

These are documents that the manufacturing facility is primarily responsible for preparing and verifying. For OEM manufacturing, the requirements include a list of raw materials, evidence of Halal certification for the raw materials, production system documentation, and manufacturing facility documents for consideration.

What does the brand owner need to prepare?

For customers who hire an OEM manufacturer, the main things to prepare include the following

  1. Brand Owner or Company Information

Such as a company certificate or documents of the authorized signatory, depending on the business structure, for preparing the application and power of attorney.

  1. Brand Name and Product Name

Provide the brand name, product name, and a clear list of the products for which Halal certification is being requested.

  1. Trademark, If Applicable

If the trademark has already been registered, the relevant documents should be prepared for submission as part of the application.

  1. Product Label or Artwork

The product label or artwork should include the relevant product information and indicate where the Halal Certification Mark is intended to appear. For OEM applications, a sample product label or artwork must be submitted for consideration.

  1. OEM Manufacturing Documents

For OEM manufacturing, a power of attorney and supporting manufacturing documents may be required. Our team will provide the relevant details and forms for customers to complete and sign as required.

In addition, food-related documents or the product’s Thai FDA registration number may be required as supporting information for Halal certification, depending on the type of product.

In summary: Customers are responsible for preparing company information, brand details, product labels, and OEM manufacturing documents. The manufacturing facility primarily handles the formula, raw materials, manufacturing process, and factory-related documentation.

Why Should You Plan for Halal Certification from the Product Development Stage?

Halal certification does not only assess the finished product. It also covers the raw materials, their sources, suppliers, and manufacturing processes. By planning for Halal certification from the beginning of the product development stage, the manufacturing facility can verify the raw materials and relevant documentation from the outset. This helps reduce the likelihood of having to replace raw materials or reformulate the product later.

Maydi International provides comprehensive support from product formulation and development through the Halal certification process.

For brand owners looking to manufacture dietary supplements with Halal certification, Maydi International can provide support throughout the process, from product formulation and development, raw material verification, and product information preparation to the documentation required for Halal certification.

Customers do not need to prepare manufacturing facility documents themselves. Our team will inform you of the specific information and documents that the brand owner needs to provide at each stage.
